The course consists of a module (one semester, 30 hours) and language practice classes (two semesters, 60 hours). The module course aims to provide students with knowledge and skills at the B2+/C1 level of the Common European Framework for Languages (CEFR) in the four language modalities: written and spoken language comprehension, written and spoken language production. The course aims to develop metalinguistic competencies to analyze texts in order to understand, produce, translate and adapt texts from English into Italian, and vice versa.
Students will acquire and consolidate knowledge and skills in English at the B2+ level of proficiency.

She/he will achieve the following Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs):
1) Knowledge and understanding of the basic phenomena of English structure and use; English language acquisition and processing in bilingual children and adults in different contexts.
2) Applying knowledge and understanding: students will be able to produce linguistic analyses of variety of English language data sets (spoken and written texts) at a B2+ level; interact with peers and Instructors professionally; produce critical summaries on selected topics drawing from multiple sources of information on the same topic; explain a viewpoint on a topical issue providing the advantages and disadvantages of different approaches and points of view.
3) Communicating: students will show communicative at the B2+ level in the four competences.

La verifica dell'apprendimento viene fatta con un esame scritto ed orale.
L'esame consiste di uno scritto (durata 3 ore) ed un orale con la docente dell'insegnamento a cui si è ammessi avendo superato lo scritto. Lo scritto consiste di due parti. Entrambe le parti dello scritto (modulo ed esercitazioni) devono essere superate per accedere all'esame orale.

Esame per il Modulo di approfondimento del secondo semestre: Esame scritto della durata di 1:30 minuti con 5 domande aperte strutturate e valutate come segue:

1. Una analisi e sintesi critica dalle fonti scritte ed orali, primarie e secondarie, con citazioni e bibliografia in formato APA, [250 parole/20 punti].
2. Una descrizione di dati presentati in formato di tabella numerica e/o grafico, [200 parole/20 punti]
3. Una proposta di analisi con dati od esempi nuovi a partire da quelli proposti, [250 parole/20 punti]
4. Il paragone (compare and contrast essay) tra due opinioni, fenomeni, teorie, approcci, metodi, presentato in modo logico, chiaro e bilanciato con gli argomenti a favore e contro una posizione. [300 parole/20 punti]
5. L’adattamento/traduzione dall’Inglese all’Italiano di un esempio linguistico o della porzione di un test linguistico, [150 parole/20 punti]


Esame sulle Esercitazioni annuali: Expository writing sugli argomenti trattati nelle esercitazioni con i collaboratori esperti linguistici.
Tutti gli scritti sono valutati con griglie di valutazione multidimensionali a livello B2+. I voti su ciascuna parte sono convertiti in trentesimi.

L'orale consiste di una discussione delle risposte nell'esame scritto, due domande di approfondimento, per una durata di circa 10 minuti.
