The knowledge of contemporary art history from the half of the XIX Century to nowadays, through the analysis of the avant-garde movements and the relationships between culture and arts, paying particular attention to very meaningful works of art and the connections between history and art history.
The course is created for those who do not intend to register in their curriculum the course History of Contemporary Art (12 cfu), specifically deepening the subject, but through a 6 cfu course can even so obtain a fundamental knowledge of the subject.
"Fondamenti di storia dell'arte contemporanea" belongs to the BA Degree in Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Performing Arts Management (specifically for the History of Art curriculum), but it can be attended for every BA Degree as a single course (in the "decided by individual student" area) or Erasmus program.
- knowledge and understanding: knowledge of terminology; knowledge of main artists' poetic and works of art, groups and movements in the field of visual arts from the second half of the XIX Century to nowadays;
- ability to apply knowledge and understanding: knowledge of how to use a specific terminology and ability to recognize main artists and works of art based on lessons and texts given by the teacher; understanding the artist's poetic;
- ability to understand: capability in analyzing a work of art or the poetry of an artist or a group / movement among the studied ones, referring them to a correct temporal and cultural collocation; to be able to argue with property of language and correct formal analysis;
- communication skills: knowing how to use an appropriate and specific terminology, introduced and explained at lesson or on recommended texts and books; apply a good Italian (or English) syntax and grammar; being able to behave in a respectful and profitable way with professors and peers;
- learning skills: being able to recognize the fundamental protagonists of the arts of the XIX, XX and XXI Century; being able to understand how to connect a work of art or an author to cultural and artistic movements / groups or to a specific cultural moment, making little comparisons between different themes and poetics.
none (however a basic knowledge of Ancient, Medieval and Modern Art is recommendable)
History of Contemporary Art from the half od XIX Century to nowaday through specified case studies: the leading roles of the Art System and changes between the XIX and the XX Centuries; Realism and Naturalism, Impressionism, Postimpressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Futurism, Abstract Art, Dada, Surrealism, Metaphysical Painting, "Novecento Italiano", Informal Art and Abstract Expressionism; principles of Neo-Avantgarde, Pop Art, Optical Art, Minimal Art, Process Art, Land Art, "Arte Povera", Conceptual Art, Body Art, Video Art, art in the 80s and 90s.
Little focus on 1968 and Venice Biennale.
