The course falls within the range of courses offered in the Master's Degree Programme (DM270) in Interpreting and Translation for Publishing and for Special Purposes[LM7]. The course aims to introduce students to Chinese for business and practice of Chinese-Italian and Italian-Chinese commercial negotiation, as well as to its basic concepts and skills, such as building of a technical lexicon in both languages with reference to the different aspects of commercial liaison (price, orders, shipping, payments, etc.); memorization and note-taking techniques, public speaking skills; interpretation practice.
Upon completion of this course, students will have achieved the following results:

1. Knowledge and understanding
1.1. Knowing the basic vocabulary of business in Italian and Chinese (and the processes that such lexicon describes) and the syntactic structures of business Chinese, as well as understanding the written and oral texts that use them
1.2 Knowing the cultural norms that govern the practice of Chinese-Italian business negotiation and the importance of intercultural communication

2. Applying knowledge and understanding
2.1 Being able to correctly use the specialised vocabulary and syntactic structures of business Chinese in all the processes that require the application and communication of the knowledge acquired
2.2 Being able to apply intercultural competence to the practice of Chinese-Italian business negotiation

3. Communication skills
3.1 Being able to conduct a simple Chinese-Italian and Italian-Chinese business negotiation using the appropriate vocabulary and linguistic structures

4. Learning skills
4.1 Being able to critically use Chinese-Italian and Italian-Chinese business glossaries and independently expanding them according to specific needs
Knowledge of the Chinese language (vocabulary and syntactic structures) achieved thanks to the language courses attended in each student's BA programmes.
The course focuses on contents of the book Barbara Leonesi, 2011. Cinese & affari. Manuale pratico di cinese commerciale, Hoepli. In particular, we are going to address specific language needed to write emails, make phone calls, liason interpreting, order and ship goods, payment methods, business trips.

Further materials will be provided by the course instructor.
Written test based on excercises and glossaries created in class. A mock exam will be available in the University website, ISA materials of the teacher, which will be provided in the Moodle platform, as well. Exercises will include: fill-in exercises, translations (active and passive).
Stand-up lectures, interactive sessions and workshops. PPTs, videos and other multimedia materials will be used, too.
