This course will include reading and discussion of selections from Arabic newspapers and journals on 
the contemporary issue of immigrants in the Mediterranean region. Emphasis will be placed on developing advanced reading and speaking skills, with some attention to writing and listening comprehension., all of this in (Modern Standard Arabic).

While the course objective is to lead the learners to be able to converse fluently in various topics by engaging the language knowledge they have acquired over their past learning experience, and to produce creative pieces of writing, read authentic texts in the target Language and report the meaning in their first Language accurately.

- Knowledge and understanding
The course will promote the knowledge of the linguistic terminology of an advanced level, and the understanding of the texts that use it.
And to deepen the knowledge of the properties of the different modules of the language and the understanding of their interaction.

- Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
In the phase following the knowledge of the linguistic terminology of an advanced level, and the comprehension of the texts that use it, the course establishes the ability to correctly use the linguistic terminology in all the processes of application and communication of the acquired knowledge.
Additionally in the phase following the knowledge of the properties of the different modules of the language and the understanding of their interaction, the course promotes the ability of the students to operate the analysis of the texts in Arabic of different aspects.
Intermediate - advanced knowledge and skills of modern standard Arabic
Phase 1.1 - Introduction and presentation of the course
Phase 1.2 - Arab journalism: presentation on journalism in general, and in particular in the Arab world
Phase 2.1 - Immigrants in the Mediterranean: (reading materials)
presentation on the theme of immigrants in the Mediterranean area, through articles from Arab newspapers
Phase 2.2 - Written and oral presentation by the students on the topic of immigrants, based on their choice of articles from Arab newspapers
Phase 3.1 - Immigrants in the middle of the Mediterranean: (listening materials)
presentation on the theme of immigrants in the Mediterranean area, through daily TV reports
Phase 3.2 - Oral presentation by students on the topic of immigrants, based on their choice of the TV reports of Arab channels
Phase 4 - General review of previous lessons, and preparation for the exam.
The assessment of learning takes place through a written test and an oral test.
During the written test the use of books, notes, electronic media is not allowed. During the oral examination the student must demonstrate knowledge of the topics developed during the course and know how to expose them correctly in the standard Arabic language

The expected methods of assessment of the acquired knowledge and skills are:
a) a written examination consists of a journalistic text on the theme of
immigration in modern Arabic standard ,with open questions, and closed. The score of the written exam is 15/15, which will be integrated by the points achieved in the activity carried out during the lessons with another 5/5 points. In this phase the skills of reading and writing in Arabic acquired by the student during the course will be evaluated
b) an oral exam with a score of 10/10, which assesses the skills to speak and hear, through questions on the topics presented during the course
Teaching organized in:
a) lectures;
b) thematic analysis proposed to students who in small groups will have to discuss, analyze and report in the classroom
During the lectures, students will be focusing on reading extracts of articles from journals, newspapers, listening to TV programs and reports, writing assignments aimed to reinforce the students’ stylistic and structural competences.
Classes are delivered only in the Arabic language.
Students are encouraged to participate in creative speaking activities, such as discussion, debate and report about current events, and to interact only in Arabic with the teacher and with their colleagues.
