LATIN AMERICA: HISTORY OF AN INVENTION

The course aims to provide a general understanding of the historical context and the literary production from the "discovery" of America today, especially with regard to the history of ideas, to be defined through the analysis of poetic texts of authors and authors most representative. In particular, it aims to cover the story of the birth of the idea of ​​America to the development of "de-colonial option".
It also aims to promote understanding of cultural phenomena and the capacity of their critical contextualization within the framework of the society that produced them.
It also proposes to provide some critical and methodological base, for the acquisition, by students, of understanding and analysis of the text that promote the autonomy of judgment.
Lectures, reading, text analysis and examinations will take place mainly in Italian.

I risultati attesi dal corso sono i seguenti:
1) fornire una conoscenza generale del contesto storico-culturale e della produzione letteraria ispano-americana dalla "Scoperta" dell'America ad oggi, con particolare riguardo alla storia delle idee, al definirsi delle poetiche attraverso l'analisi dei testi degli autori e delle autrici più rappresentativi. In particolare, si intende ripercorrere la storia dalla nascita dell'idea di America allo sviluppo della "opzione de-coloniale".
2) favorire la comprensione dei fenomeni culturali e la capacità di una loro contestualizzazione critica nel quadro delle società che li hanno prodotti.
3) fornire alcuni strumenti critici e metodologici di base, volti all’acquisizione, da parte degli studenti, di capacità di comprensione e analisi del testo che favoriscano l’autonomia di giudizio, così come di elaborazione di idee critiche personali.
4) incrementare le capacità di apprendimento necessarie per intraprendere studi successivi con un alto grado di autonomia.

Latin America: the history of an invention.

The course will trace the broad outlines of the historical context underlying the cultural evolution of the Hispanic-American productions from the sixteenth to twenty-first century, in its contradictory relationships of dependence and emancipation with the European context. The study of the salient features of the great aesthetic-literary currents and poetic forms, narratives and theatrical in their evolution will be addressed through authors and works of particular importance. And it will be provided the analysis of passages from the works planned and anthological texts.

The exam consists of an interview mainly in Italian and will verify the contents of the form, the knowledge of the works studied with the support of the critical texts, as well as the historical and literary knowledge of centuries addressed (issues, evolutionary lines, main authors).

Students are required to attend the International Conference "Reescrituras del mito en las literaturas hispanoamericanas del siglo XX" and "Cartografie della violenza" to be held on dicember 2018. More information will be provided during class.
