The course is part of the curriculum of the "Languages, Cultures and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa" curriculum.
Its educational objectives fall within the area of learning historical, cultural and humanistic skills.
Knowledge and understanding:
- know and understand the main stages and phenomena of the political, cultural and social history of Southeast Asia from its origins to the contemporary
- acquire awareness of the methodology of historical research
- acquire the tools to deepen the historical contexts analyzed in the course also in other courses of the CdS from other points of view (eg linguistic)

Ability to apply knowledge and understanding:
- to know how to deal with historiographical themes autonomously, using critical and historiographic concepts and tools
- being able to critically apply the historical research methodology to the period under consideration
An open mind and desire to learn about other cultures and histories
Introduction to the history of Southeast Asia, with a focus on the contemporary period
Particular attention will be paid to the great cultural, social and political transformations of the region.
