The course is part of the cultural program and is addressed to the students of all areas of the postgraduate program. The course is, therefore, transversal.
1. Knowledge and comprehension
- Knowledge of the historical sources and manuscripts.
- Knowledge of the sources in Venetian and other European languages.

2. Capacity of application
- To apply the knowledge of the sources to an analysis of the Venetian and European visions of the "Orients"
. Interpretation of medieval and Renaissance texts (including maps) by the interaction with the modern and contemporary scientific bibliography
- Capacity of exposing the acquired knowledges in a scientific argumentation
The course does not require specific linguistic knowledge, but general notions of the area are recommended.
"Venice and the other Turks"
Presentation and study of the Venetian sources on the cultural and political areas visited by Venetians from the 15th to the 18th centuries.
Analysis of description modalities of those areas and concrete forms of state, without any exotic character.
Reading of narratives and descriptions in Venetian and European sources facing the geocultural areas of the Near and Middle East and Central Asia.

Students unable to attend are requested to contact the instructor in order to agree personal programs and bibliography.
