The course belongs to the core educational activities of the Foundation Year in History.
This course introduces students to the analysis of Italian modern and contemporary history in its European context. A special attention will be paid to political-institutional systems and cultural history. The chronology of the course ranges from the French Revolution of 1789 to the transition from Fascism to the Republic and the challenges faced by the post-war Italian state and Italian society (1948). The course provide a compared analysis of the main historical events which concerned Italy, France and Germany.

This course is designed to provide historians with a first overview of the field of Modern and Contemporary European and Italian History.
This course analyses the modern world in order to understand its historical development from the French Revolution of 1789 to the post-war Italian state.

All the didactic materials will be made available through the Moodle e-learning platform.

Two short written examinations composed of 10 open questions will be held during the term period in order to understand how familiar the students have become with the arguments of the course. The questions will be based on the lessons of the teacher.
