Bio-sketch: Malcolm Mistry holds a PhD in Science and Management of Climate Change from the Dept. of Economics, Ca’Foscari University of Venice. His thesis focused on impacts of climate change and variability on crop yields using emulators and empirical models. Malcolm holds a Master’s in Weather and Climate Modelling from the University of Reading (U.K.) where his dissertation examined the Intra-seasonal variability of Indian Summer Monsoon (ISM) in Observed and General Circulation Model (GCM).

Malcolm is currently an Assistant Professor in Climate and Geo-Spatial Modelling at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) where his research focuses on how humidity and heat affect human health, climate change and health impacts assessment, and development of real-time temperature-health aleart warning system among others. He is also a Senior Climate and Health advisor with the Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre. In addition, he is a visiting researcher/lecturer at Ca’Foscari University of Venice, and has previously held research positions at the Fondazione Centro Euro-Mediterraneo sui Cambiamenti Climatici (CMCC – ECIP Division) and the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre (Spain). Malcolm has expertise in big (Earth) data, handling large climate datasets, running Earth System Models (ESM), numerous scientific data management and spatial analysis tools, and environmental epidemiology. His research interests include modelling the sectoral impacts of climate change (such as on agriculture, health and energy), application of climate extreme indices, and last but not the least, creating awareness of the science of climate change and its potential impacts by giving talks in local schools. Prior embarking on a research career, Malcolm worked as a navigating officer onboard research and seismic survey ships, engaged in data acquisition of sea bed profiles.
