I joined Ca’ Foscari in 2020 as Marie Sklodowska-Curie Global Fellow for the research project ‘Algeria, Antifascism, and Third Worldism: An Anticolonial Genealogy of the Western European New Left (Algeria, France, Italy, 1957–75)’. I’m also an associate member of the University of Oxford, Faculty of History and of Maison Française d’Oxford.

Between 2015 and 2020 I was based at Oxford: initially as Marie Sklodowska-Curie Fellow (Trinity College), then as Deakin Fellow at the European Studies Centre (St Antony’s College), and finally as visiting fellow at the Faculty of History and invited researcher at the Maison Française d’Oxford.

I hold a PhD from the Universities of Rome (La Sapienza) and Paris (Institut d’histoire du temps présent). I have held fellowships at École des hautes études en sciences sociale (EHESS, Paris), Maison méditerranéenne de sciences de l’homme (MMSH, Aix-Marseille University), and Centre d’histoire sociale du XXe siècle (CHS, Sorbonne).

My research interests include: decolonization (especially focusing on twentieth-century France, Algeria, and the Global 1960s), history of representations and social uses of the past (memory studies, oral history, and epistemology), critical theory and postcolonial studies (with a particular focus on the Mediterranean, and the relationships between France, Algeria, and Italy – past and present). In May 2017, I co-convened a major international conference on these topics: The Algerian War of Independence: Global and Local Histories 1954–62, and Beyond. In May 2018, I convened the follow-up international conference: Algeria, France: How Memory Works?.

The English translation of my book Soldati senza causa: Memorie della guerra d’Algeria (Laterza, 2012) is forthcoming.
