Innovation Management

Research Institute for Innovation Management

Economics and management of innovation and entrepreneurship

Managing innovation and its impacts has never been so critical. The extraordinary potential offered by digital technologies and artificial intelligence carries the risks of widening the socio-economic gaps. Companies and organisations are reshaping their business models in the light of new technologies, overlooking the impact on the organisation and the relationships with their internal and external stakeholders. Technological and organisational innovation should aim at improving the living conditions and protecting the natural environment,  while understanding and neutralising the possible negative impacts due to unmanaged innovation. The successful integration of innovation into companies, organisations and society requires basic and applied multidisciplinary research combining techno-economic expertise and human sciences guided by innovative vision.

CROSSMOBY: planning intermodal, cross-border and sustainable public transports

CROSSMOBY aims to improve sustainable mobility planning and provide cross-border public transport connections, while also reducing transport emissions by testing new rail passenger services as well as other pilot services for passengers; thus creating a new approach to mobility planning based on the existing PUMS (Urban Sustainable Mobility Plans) methodology. The project contributed to the reactivation of the cross-border rail passenger services and the creation of several pilot services for passengers, and the cross-border strategic action plan on sustainable mobility. It is the first project bringing such results in the Italy-Slovenia cooperation programmes.

REBALANCE - Reframing the mutual influence among large companies and democracies

Rebalance project seeks to provide new insights, resources, events, and learning materials to help foster a rebalancing of capitalism and democracy. Democracy is under threat from capitalism. Companies are undermining democratic processes both at home and abroad. Among other things, they engage in excessive lobbying, violations of basic human rights, and collusion with repressive governments. But businesses and their leaders can also help promote democracy. Indeed, companies can have a positive influence on authoritarian governments, they can protect minorities, or even produce democracy-enhancing products and services. Big and small companies can therefore play a significant part in enabling democratic participation and restoring the rights of citizens.

Cross-sectoral cooperation in culture and creative industry

The Culture and Creative Industry (CCI) sector lacks a transnational and cross-sectoral shared vision on what could be its contribution to economic and social growth in central Europe, along with a cooperation system to foster innovation processes. COCO4CCI project (Culture and Creative Industries Cooperation Collider) will build capacities for cross-sectoral cooperation in advanced manufacturing (AVM), by mapping CCI potentials aimed to create a transnational CCI collider network. A training programme will accompany facilitators in technology development, future trends setting and a mind-set definition in advanced manufacturing.

Nano-region: innovation through nanotechnologies

Leveraging from the belief that the great scientific and technological expertise can enhance industrial activity, the project Nano-Region ("Una rete aperta per l'innovazione attraverso le nanotecnologie") creates a network of research centers and nanotechnology laboratories and opens them to small and medium-sized enterprises. The final goal is to develop an effective action of technology transfer from the research to the industry centers operating in this Interreg macro-region that can enhance competitiveness, occupation and economic impact of the local productivity system in the medium and long term.

ECOS4IN ‐ Cross‐border Ecosystem for Industry 4.0

The final goal of the project is to contribute to the organizational and technological culture within micro, small and big enterprises in all the economic-productive sectors, raising awarness on the potential of the digital progress. More specifically, ECOS4IN looks at the sustainable transnational cooperation through a consortium made of seven central-European partners bringing together professionals coming from research centers, universities and companies to cooperate on common challenges. The starting point is the belief that the forth industrial revolution is the new reality that is challenging all the industrial sectors, whose benefits will depend on the local and regional entities to accept, apply and manage the necessary changes.
