On Friday 29 September, Ca’ Foscari signed the new EUTOPIA Statute, together with the other 9 universities in the European alliance. The signing took place in the European Parliament, during the academic opening session of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, a founding member of EUTOPIA.

In the coming months, the document will help establish EUTOPIA as an international legal entity under Belgian law, after the  approval by all the relevant authorities of each country.
Tiziana Lippiello, Ca’ Foscari rector and President of the Alliance, gave a speech on European identity and the central role of European universities in building this identity. “The genesis of the EUTOPIA Alliance lies in our enduring belief in a unified European identity; our institutions in fact embody the European spirit and its values - stated prof. Lippiello - [...] Today, there is an imperative need for a redefined educational paradigm within the European University—a model poised to not only meet the current exigencies but also thrive in the future.”

Concerning the newly signed Statute, she also stated that “EUTOPIA represents something far more substantial and ambitious than a project. Establishing the alliance’s legal entity aligns with this vision, marking another pivotal milestone. A legal status represents a significant step toward consolidating our long-term cooperation.”

VUB Rector Jan Danckaert also took the stage for a speech on the vital importance of European cooperation for excellence in teaching, research and innovation. And beyond that, the need for a new Renaissance “The European Parliament is the ideal location for an academic opening session in the context of our EUTOPIA network. My message is: Europe and the world need a new Renaissance and a new Enlightenment. Alliances such as EUTOPIA contribute to this.”To emphasise the importance of the new cooperation model, EUTOPIA has invited leading speaker Federica Mogherini to address the opening session. As rector of the College of Europe and a former EU High Representative on Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, she delivered a guest speech devoted to Europe and EUTOPIA at the symbolic podium of the European Parliament.
