Tiziana Lippiello is our new Rector. She will take office on October 1st

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice has chosen its new Rector: the first woman in the history of the institution, Tiziana Lippiello is now the 23rd Rector of the Venetian University. She was elected with 381 votes, against the 322 gained by her opponent Monica Billio in the third election round. She will guide the University for the next 6 years, after which she won’t be re-electable.

These are the results of the final election day:
Tiziana Lippiello: 381 votes
Monica Billio: 322 votes
Angelo Rubino: 4 votes
Gaetano Zilio Grandi: 0 votes
Blanks: 9

To be elected, a candidate needed the absolute majority of the votes, scoring a minimum of 348 votes.
The number of actual voters was 1132, while the total number of people eligible to vote was 1341.

96% of professors cast their vote, as did 79% of the student representatives and 75% of the staff members and language advisors.
606 professors and researchers were entitled to vote, as well as 29 student representatives and 706 staff members and language advisors.

Tiziana Lippiello is Full Professor of Classical Chinese Language, History of Philosophy and Religion in China at the Department of Asian and North African Studies. Since 2014, she has served as Vice-Rector in charge of relations with Asia (2014-2017) and International Relations (2017-2020)
She has also held the positions of Director of the Department of Asian and North African Studies from 2011 to 2014 and Director of the Department of Eastern Asian Studies from 2009 to 2011.
She served as a member of the Academic Senate from 2006 to 2009 and of the Venice International University  Board of Directors from 2006 to 2011, since 2015 she also coordinates the Double Degree on “Chinese studies” (LICSAAM)  with the Capital Normal University Beijing, as well as the Double Degree on “Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language”  with the same University.  She also supervises the RobinBA project called “The role of books in non bibliometric areas”.

The new Rector will take office on October 1st, 2020, succeeding Professor Michele Bugliesi, who had won the ballot on July 3rd 2014 with 330 votes.
