Myriam PILUTTI NAMER

Myriam Pilutti Namer studied Conservation of Cultural Heritage and Classical Archaeology at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice (BA; MA) with Prof. Luigi Sperti. She obtained her PhD in Archaeology and Art History at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa under the supervision of Prof. Salvatore Settis and Prof. Paul Zanker (2013). She acquired pre-doctoral and post-doctoral research experience at the École du Louvre, the Vittore Branca Study Centre of the Giorgio Cini Foundation ONLUS, the École polytechnique fédérale in Lausanne, the University of Trieste, the Istituto Italiano per gli Studi Storici of Naples, the Ca' Foscari University of Venice (in collaboration with the Italian Institute of Technology), the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, where she was also responsible of a project devoted to the archaeologist Giacomo Boni (1859-1925) at the SAET Centre directed by Prof. Andrea Giardina. In the years 2019-2022 she was granted research contracts in the Digital Humanities area at Ca' Foscari aimed at testing innovative digital laser measurement of Venetian spolia.

Since 2015 she collaborates, and since 2017 she is a course holder, at the Ca' Foscari School for International Education, where she has gained extensive experience in international education. She has been lecturer in programmes involving The University of Sydney, Soochow University, Inha University and the University of International Business and Economics (Beijing). In 2018, 2019 and 2023, she also lectured for Harvard University. She has served as Visiting Scholar at UIBE (Beijing) in 2021 and 2022.

From 2018 to 2022 she has been Getty-Project Scholar in the framework of a collaboration between the Cyprus Institute and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign focusing on Mediterranean 'palimpsest architectures' between the antiquity and the present.

She has participated in archaeological campaigns involving ancient Grumentum (University of Verona) and the Campetti-Veio site (University of Rome La Sapienza). From 2015 to 2018 she has been co-curator of the project of restoration, exhibition and scientific edition of the collection of ancient and antique sculpture of Giardino and Palazzo Giusti in Verona. Since 2017 she holds the teaching appointment of archaeology and material culture at the Istituto Veneto per i Beni Culturali. In this field she has acquired experience in the theory and practice of archaeological restoration, coordinating the activities of the sector as well as projects with innovative governance directed at restoring different materials classes (glass, metals, wall mosaics, ceramics, painted wall plasters). The governance of cultural projects and institutions has been the subject of her MBA thesis at MIB School of Management and Lignan College, SUN-YAT SEN University, Guangzhou, China (2014).

He has organised national and international conferences, among others, on the archaeologist Giacomo Boni (Istituto Veneto di Scienze, Lettere e Arti, 2015); on collections of antiquities in gardens (Palazzo e Giardino Giusti, Verona, 2018); on John Ruskin's legacy in European culture (Ca' Foscari University Venice and Université Rennes 2, 2019); on women pioneers in archaeology, history and arts (Accademia di Agricoltura Scienze e Lettere, Verona, 2021); on archaeological restoration of artefacts (Palazzo Ducale, Venice 2022); on the relationship among archaeology, nature and ruins (Casa Museo Pisani Dossi, Corbetta (Mi) 2023).

She has lectured and participated in conferences at, among others, the Courtauld Institute of Art, École du Louvre, Collegio Ghislieri, Scuola Normale Superiore di Pisa, Politecnico di Torino, IUAV Venezia and at the universities of Waseda, Columbia, NOVA-Lisboa, UIBE Pechino, Salisburgo, Madrid-Complutense, Roma La Sapienza, Pavia, Suor Orsola Benincasa, Pisa, Trieste, Verona, Ca' Foscari Venezia.

She is member of the Research for Digital and Cultural Heritage, an affiliate member of CESAV at Ca' Foscari University Venice, co-founder of the FoRs Centre (Focus On Ruskin reSearch) - DSLCC, at the Ca' Foscari University of Venice.

In 2017, she was awarded the National Scientific Qualification for Associate Professor in sector 10/A1.

Her main study and research interests, as expressed by more than fifty publications, concern classical archaeology, the history of archaeology, the relationship between archaeology and the natural world, cultural aspects of restoration (in particular archaeological restoration), with special attention to the relevant innovations provided by the Digital Humanities. In her research, she privileges an interdisciplinary and cross-cultural approach. In keeping with this concept of research, she co-founded the international digital scientific journal 'MDCCC1800', in 2021 awarded the Class A rating by ANVUR, and the series 'Sources, literatures, arts and landscapes of Europe' (Edizioni Ca' Foscari).
