Programme

The Ph.D. in Sustainable Chemistry is a multidisciplinary program in the broad field of chemistry, focusing on sustainable research strategies for the development of new products and processes that provide solutions to both the present and medium-term demands of the chemical industry and the needs of society. The PhD program in Sustainable Chemistry provides knowledge on how to evaluate chemical syntheses and processing pathways in order to gain a comprehensive understanding of how to design sustainable chemical processes, materials and products.

The program lasts 3 years, including a period of study at partner universities abroad, and offers training in internationally competitive research.

The PhD program covers specific topics that touch on areas of expertise including: sensing, water purification, carbon capture and storage, sustainable organic syntheses, development of sustainable processes and renewable materials, development of catalytic, photocatalytic and biocatalytic systems, energy conversion and storage, and recycling. It will also provide the technical knowledge and laboratory skills to contribute to the development of a sustainable society and industry.

Didactic programme

The first and second year are characterized by an advanced learning program. The department offers a series diversified activities (lectures, seminars, presentations, workshops, etc.) and promotes integration of PhD students. Most of the courses and seminars can be given in videoconference mode.

PhD students will learn to use specialized knowledge in an interdisciplinary context, characterized by a strong applicative value. PhD students will learn how to communicate the research results to different target audiences, to manage the intellectual property rights and to exploit their possible industrial development.

Students will also attend at least 2 additional teaching activities organized by PhD Office, language ones excluded. Students will have the possibility to apply for Schools for PhD students by submitting their requests to PhD Coordinator/Board of Professors.

Research programme

PhD students are encouraged to develop part of their scientific program in foreign institutions, preferably in the second year. The minimum recommended period for the internship is three months.

Internationalization is one of the priorities of the PhD Program: the PhD Course offers opportunities of study and cultural and professional growth in a prestigious network of universities.

Participation in top international conferences is recommended and financially supported.
