Bachelor's degree

In addition, the Department of Economics has established the following rules, which apply only to the Bachelor’s degree programmes offered by the Department: Commercio Estero, Commercio Estero e Turismo, Economia e Commercio, Economics and Business (English-taught).

For Bachelor’s degree programmes, the final exam consists of writing a paper that demonstrates the student’s ability to organize and discuss information coherently and analytically.

At the student’s choice, the paper may take the form of:

  • a short thesis exploring a specific topic;
  • a report on the curricular internship.

Assessment criteria

For the final degree exam of the Bachelor’s Degree programmes offered by the Department of Economics, the assessment is based on an evaluation scheme with marks ranging from 0 to 6, according to the following criteria:

  • 0 to 5 points reflecting the paper evaluation. Specifically:
    • 5 points for an exceptional thesis
    • 4 points for an excellent thesis
    • 3 points for a good thesis
    • 2 points for a fair thesis
    • 1 point for a sufficient thesis
    • 0 points for an acceptable thesis
  • final exam with a report based on the internship activities: 0 to 2 points;
  • In addition, 1 point may be given if the student has obtained an average grade equal or superior to 26/30 in previous exams or if the student has received at least one cum laude grade among previous exams.

For the Bachelor’s degree programmes of the Department of Economics, the final exam will be scored from 0 to 6 points according to the following criteria:

  • 3 points for an excellent paper (short thesis or internship report)
  • 2 points for a good paper (short thesis or internship report)
  • 1 point for a satisfactory paper (short thesis or internship report)
  • 0 points for a passable paper (short thesis or internship report)

Additional points based on weighted grade average:

  • +3 points for an average greater than or equal to 28
  • +2 points for an average greater than or equal to 26 and less than 28
  • +1 point for an average greater than or equal to 23 and less than 26

Supervisor

Information about the role and departmental affiliation of faculty members is available on each professor’s personal webpage. The student agrees with a supervisor on the topic and methods for writing thier thesis.

For a short thesis exploring a specific topic, supervisors can be:

  • tenured faculty members (full, associate, and assistant professors) affiliated with the Department of Economics;
  • faculty members affiliated with the Venice School of Management, following that department’s online supervisor assignment procedure (available on the “Assignment of your thesis supervisor” webpage);
  • tenured faculty members from other University departments and adjunct professors, provided they teach a course within the Study Courses offered by the Department of Economics.

The following cannot be supervisors:

  • external professors appointed for practical sessions;
  • language experts (CEL);
  • Adjunct / Visiting Professors.

For the internship report, supervisors may only be tenured faculty members (full, associate, or assistant professors) affiliated with the Department of Economics.

Students who encounter difficulties in finding a supervisor may write to report-triennale@unive.it at least six weeks before the deadline for submitting their degree application and request to be assigned a supervisor for their internship report. Please send only one request and wait for a reply from the office.

The request must include:

  • name and surname;
  • degree programme;
  • current exam grade average (GPA);
  • number of exams yet to be completed;
  • company where the internship was carried out.

Students will then receive an email with the name of the assigned supervisor in time to submit the graduation application within the University deadlines.

Guidelines for the final exam

The Department of Economics has prepared brief guidelines with useful information on the final degree exam. Please consult them in order to know how to structure your thesis.

Students must always follow additional instructions given by their supervisor.


Master’s degrees

The Master’s thesis is a written work in which the student critically analyses the existing literature on a specific topic. The thesis is discussed in front of a committee.

Thesis supervisor

Supervisors can be:

  • tenured faculty members (full, associate, and assistant professors) affiliated with the Department of Economics;
  • tenured faculty members affiliated with the Venice School of Management, following the online supervisor assignment procedure (available on the Venice School of Management “Assignment of your thesis supervisor” webpage);
  • tenured faculty members from other University departments and adjunct professors, provided they teach a course included in the Study Courses of the Department of Economics.
