The course contributes to achieve the main objectives of the Master Programme in Global Development and Entrepreneurship and will teach students to 1) understand the Migration phenomenous through theory and empirical evidences 2) critically evaluate the socio-economic implications of Migration for the origin and destination regions.
1) Knowledge and Competence
Students are expected to have a good understanding of the basic mechanisms behind migration flows and how economic models can be used to analyse migration
2) Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
Apply relevant knowledge and understanding of economics to contemporary issues and debates on migration
3) Critical thinking skills
Critically discuss and evaluate the effectiveness of various migration-related topics.
4) Comunication skills
Students will develop tools to understand, synthesize and present empirical papers.
Notions of microeconomics require.
Strongly suggested: macroeconomics and econometrics
1. Migration Theory: modelling individuals and household decisions
2. Theory on remittance motivations and the impact of migration/remittances on those left behind
3. Impact of migration on the destination regions/countries

For each topic Dr. Enrico Di Pasquale from Fondazione Leone Moressa will presents some keys reports with empirical evidences

Selected papers and reports will be provided during the course
Presentation of a paper/report in small groups (20% of the final marks). The presentation will last 20 minuts with 5/10 minuts of demands and discussion with the rest of the class.
Written exam with open questions (80% of the final marks).
Each lecture will combine a frontal lecture with in-class activities (discussion, students’ presentations)
