This course provides a Chinese perspective on ecolinguistic issues. It focuses on the relationships and interactions between language and ecology through case studies involving languages in China.
Students will learn about different approaches of ecolinguistics. They will develop familarity with the linguistic situations in China and be guided to reflect on the cultural, philosophical, and political aspects of Chinese ecolinguistics.
Enrollment in the MA Programme in Environmental Humanities OR Language and Civilisation of Asia and Mediterranean Africa.
The course consists of three main parts. The first part covers selected topics of Chinese environmental humanities. The second part introduces different approaches to ecolinguistics, with special reference to languages in China. The third part discusses ecolinguistic analysis of Chinese environmental texts.
