Students will be provided with the basic tools for understanding the meaning of "International Economics" and of "Development Studies". After an introduction to development and globalization, students will be provided with a basic understanding of the main theories in international economics, instruments and issues in trading policies. The last part of the course will be devoted to foundations of economic and human development, including theories on structural change.
The focus is on a critical approach to the link between internationalization and development, to the development divide, to issues of globalization, internationalization ,inequality, poverty, industrialization, structural change and innovation. The course is entirely taught in English.
Students will be able to use the main theories in International Economics and Development Studies for empirical analysis of countries, in a historical perspective and in a contemporary analysis. They will be able to discuss and analyze development policies, industry analysis and policy, international policies for development and the role of international institutions.
