Inquadramento dell'insegnamento nel percorso del corso di studio
Part A - Introductory classes
Module 1 - Foundations of financial management
It provides fundamental notions of finance, including risk premium, risk-adjusted returns, and the capital structure of firms.
Part B - Thematic research-oriented module
This module introduces a thematic area of current interest, either because of the approach taken (e.g., entrepreneurial finance) or due to its topical relevance (e.g., sustainable finance).
The area will be chosen from the following options: entrepreneurial finance, fintech and funding, and sustainable finance. Rather than covering all possible themes, the course will focus on one selected topic, on which students will have the opportunity to work hands-on with empirical data and develop applied research insights.

Module 2
A topic chosen from:
- Entrepreneurial finance
Entrepreneurial firms are recognized as important drivers of innovation and employment. Their funding, although it may resemble that of mature firms, presents specific challenges that warrant a separate research area. The challenges are empirically relevant because matching funding needs with the right funding source has a great impact on the success of the firms.
- Fintech and funding
Fintech refers to the interactions between new technologies and financial services, both investing and funding. The module addresses the structuring of new funding sources and their impact on funding needs and the trajectory of firms.
- Sustainable Finance
Sustainable finance studies how finance (investing and funding) interplays not only with economic and financial issues, but also with social and environmental ones. Finance has often been accused of moving companies towards a short-term profit orientation. Sustainable finance corrects this bias by introducing a long-term orientation, where economic objectives are set in conjunction with social and environmental ones.
