Simon LEVIS SULLAM

Simon Levis Sullam è professore associato in Storia contemporanea. Ha studiato a Venezia, UCLA e l'EHESS di Parigi, conseguendo la laurea e il dottorato in storia a Ca' Foscari. E' stato borsista della Fondazione Einaudi di Torino (2000); Research Associate Fellow all'Italian Academy della Columbia University di New York (2005-6); Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow e Visiting Lecturer all’Università della California, Berkeley (2006-8); Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow all'Istituto Universitario Europeo di Fiesole (2008-9); Leverhulme Research Fellow all’Università di Oxford (2009-10), dove ha anche insegnato storia europea. E' stato professore a contratto a Ca' Foscari e a Siena (Master in Human Rights and Genocide Studies). Tra il 2011 e il 2015 è stato ricercatore a tempo determinato in Storia contemporanea a Ca' Foscari, nell'ambito del Programma Giovani Ricercatori Rita Levi Montalcini ("rientro dei cervelli") finanziato dal MIUR. Nel 2016-17 è stato Polonsky Fellow quale co-coordinatore dell'Advanced Seminar in Jewish Studies al Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies dell'Università di Oxford. Si occupa di storia d’Italia tra Ottocento e Novecento con particolare attenzione per la storia politica, della cultura, degli intellettuali e delle idee; di storia degli ebrei; di storia dell’antisemitismo e dell’Olocausto. Tra i suoi interessi la storia della storiografia e i problemi di metodo storico. Le sue principali pubblicazioni sono:

Simon Levis Sullam is associate professor of Modern History. After studies at Venice, UCLA, and EHESS (Paris) he obtained an MA and a PhD in History from Ca’ Foscari. He was research fellow of the Fondazione Einaudi in Turin (2000); Research Associate Fellow at the Italian Academy of Columbia University, New York (2005-6); Andrew W. Mellon Postdoctoral Fellow and Visiting Lecturer at UC Berkeley (2006-8); Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the the European University Insititue in Fiesole (2008-9); Leverhulme Research Fellow at the University of Oxford (2009-10), where he also taught modern European history. He was an adjunct professor at Ca' Foscari and the University of Siena (Master in Human Rights and Genocide Studies). Between 2011 and 2015 he was adjunct assistant professor in Modern History at Ca' Foscari in the context of the Programma Giovani Ricercatori Rita Levi Montalcini, funded by the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research. In 2016-17 Levis Sullam was Polonsky Fellow as co-chair of the Seminar in Advanced Jewish Studies at the Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies of the University of Oxford. Levis Sullam's areas of specialization include: Italian history between the Nineteenth and the Twentieth century (especially the history of politics and culture, and the history of intellectuals and ideas); Jewish history; the history of anti-Semitism and of the Holocaust. His interests also include the history of historiography and questions of historical method.
