I carry out method development for the analysis of trace elements and trace element speciation in environmental matrices. This also includes the evaluation and development of new sample introduction techniques as well as established ones to improve detection limits or sample resolution where necessary. I am also responsible for air, snow and precipitation monitoring for elemental contamination at the CNR Col Margherita mountain site, and the training of new staff in the use of ICP-MS for the ultra-trace analysis of environmental samples.

My current research covers exchanges of mercury between the atmosphere and snowpack in Antarctica, atmospheric mercury monitoring in a high mountain site, use of nanoparticles in biomedical applications.

I am the Italian representative on the Mercury and Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) Expert groups of Arctic Monitoring and Assessment Programme of the Arctic Council. I am also the Italian representative on the Arctic Contaminants Action Programme (ACAP) of the Arctic Council. I am currently an author for the next Arctic Mercury Assessment for AMAP.

Since 2009 I have been a member of the Environmental Analysis Group of the Royal Society of Chemistry Atomic Spectrometry Updates.
