Paolo Biagi

 Born in Brescia on January 30th, 1948. Dott. Degree in Classical Literature, Milan University, with a Thesis in Palaeoethnology, 1972. PhD Degree in Prehistoric Archaeology, Institute of Archaeology, London University, 1981. Assistant and then Curator of the Natural History Museum of Brescia (1978-1981). Researcher, Institute of Archaeology, Genoa University (1981-1988). Associate Professor of Palaeoethnology, Ca’ Foscari University (1988-2002), then Full Professor of Prehistory and Protohistory, Ca’ Foscari University (2002-present). Erasmus Coordinator.

Researches and excavations in northern Italy, Sardinia, Slovakia, England, Romania, Western Macedonia, Limnos, Cyprus, Kuwait, Oman, Sindh and Balochistan (Pakistan). Member of the Italian Archaeological Expedition in Oman (1982-1990). Director of the same Expedition (1990-1991). Archaeological survey in the Musandam Peninsula (Oman) sponsored by the IUNC (1991). Since 1993 Director of the Italian Archaeological Mission in Sindh (Pakistan). In 1999 appointed golden medal by Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur (Sindh, Pakistan). From 1998 to 2003 external Supervisor of the Mphil and PhD students of the Department of Archaeology of the same university. Now Supervisor of the PhD Students, Taxila Institute for Asian Civilization, Quaid-I-Azam University, Islamabad (Pakistan). Editorial board of "Archivio de Prehistoria Levantina", Valencia, “Journal of Asian Civilizations” and “Pakistan Journal of Social Sciences” - Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, and “Adumatu” – Al-Sudairy Foundation, Riyadh (SA)

Reviewer of ISI journals Radiocarbon, Journal of Anthropological Archaeology, Arabian Archaeology and Epigraphy, Journal of Field Archaeology, Antiquity, Quaternary International, and volumes by Springer and Elsevier. Author of more than 350 papers on the prehistory of Europe and the Middle and Near East published on Italian, French, Spanish, British, German, Polish, Ukrainian, Russian, Greek, Croatian, Slovenian, Serbian, Romanian, Hungarian, Pakistani, Omani, Saudi Arabian, Turkish, USA and Japanese journals and volumes.

Visiting Professor, Department of Archaeology, Ljubljana University (April 1995). Associate Researcher of the Department of Anthropology, Berkeley University (May 1997). Organizer of Archaeology courses at P. Mohila University, Nikolaev (2009 and 2010). Visiting Professor Tbilisi State University (October 2012).

Former co-Director of the project “Ceramic analysis and cultural process: Early Neolithic pottery in the Balkans”, directed by Professor S. Shennan, Director of the Institute of Archaeology, UCL, London.

Honorary Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, London, in 2009.

Professor Honoris Causa, Odessa I.I. Mechnikov University (Ukraine), in 2010.
