Why choose this programme

1

the course provides solid theoretical and experimental knowledge in the fields of design, development, and management of systems for information generation, transmission, and processing, as well as for statistical data analysis

2

you can choose from three curricula: Data Science, taught in English, which offers specialised training in data analysis using statistical methods and artificial intelligence; Technologies and Information Sciences, taught in Italian, focusing on software development with an emphasis on correctness, security, and usability. In the European Computer Science curriculum, you will have the opportunity to study abroad for a year and obtain a double degree

3

you will have the opportunity to participate in laboratory activities, company internships, and comprehensive methodological training, while also considering the legal and ethical issues related to the profession and reflecting on the environmental impact of information technologies

Overview

Computer science is a young discipline, but it is at the centre of a genuine cultural revolution that has transformed our everyday lives. Just think of search engines, e-commerce, social networks, and much more. Those who study computer science develop practical and creative skills - such as abstraction, modelling, and problem-solving - which are cross-cutting, highly sought-after, and contribute to a very high employability rate after graduation. Ca' Foscari’s programme blends a robust methodological and theoretical basis with extensive laboratory and experimental activities, and is highly regarded by the professional world (according to Almalaurea data, 100% of those who enter the workforce after their bachelor's degree secure employment within a year).

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Computer Science (Class L-31) provides eligibility to sit the state examination for registration in the professional register of IT engineers, which can also be taken on campus.
Ca’ Foscari was the first university in the Veneto region to establish a Computer Science degree in 1991, and the first to be awarded the GRIN Quality Seal (GRuppo di INformatica – the Italian Association of University Professors of Computer Science).

Opinions

Andrea Marin

Programme coordinator

“The Degree in Computer Science prepares you for the most sought-after careers in digital transformation. You can choose between “Technologies and Information Science” (the foundations for creating digital solutions), “European Computer Science” (your passport to a global career with a double foreign degree), and “Data Science” (a 100% English-language course to become a data expert).”

International network, experience abroad and employment

The programme has a strong international element. You can apply to attend part of the curriculum abroad through international training programmes in collaboration with one or more partner universities, earning a double degree or a joint degree.
Current double degrees:

  • Double Degree in European Computer Science (ECS): involves spending the third year abroad at one of the partner institutions. At the end of the programme, you can earn a double degree, meaning your qualification is recognised by both Ca' Foscari and the host institution.

After completing the three-year degree, you can continue at Ca' Foscari with a Master's degree in Computer Science and Information Technology, delivered entirely in English. This programme attracts many international students and provides the opportunity to study in a highly stimulating environment.

Ca' Foscari has over 1,500 partnerships with international institutions, including programmes like Erasmus+ and Overseas, enabling students to study and intern abroad.

Ca' Foscari's Career Service guides you into the world of work with advice services, CV support, meetings with institutions and companies, and the search for and setup of training internships in Italy and abroad.

After graduation

you will have the opportunity to work in software development, data analysis, and IT system administration, both within companies that produce IT systems and computer networks, as well as in businesses, public administrations, and laboratories that use complex information processing systems and methods

you will be eligible to take the Italian state examination for qualification as an Information Engineer (Section B)
