Overview
The Master’s Degree Programme in Environmental Sciences offers knowledge and skills to tackle environmental issues through a multidisciplinary approach, covering prevention, diagnosis, assessment, management, and remediation at local, national, and global levels. Graduates are also prepared to manage projects and assume leadership roles within research organisations involved in the environmental sector.
The three curricula represent different categories of environmental processes and issues, varying in both their specific content and the spatial scales at which these processes take place.
The (Italian-taught) Monitoring and Remediation of the Environment curriculum is designed to equip graduates with the cultural and professional knowledge needed for monitoring pollutants and contamination, evaluating their effects on human health, organisms, and ecosystems, and gaining specific skills in technological processes that support the remediation and reclamation of degraded environments, as well as the reuse of waste from human activities within a circular economy perspective.
The (Italian-taught) Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services curriculum is designed to train graduates with the cultural and professional expertise required for the physical and economic analysis of renewable resources, both biotic and abiotic – in other words, of so-called natural capital and of the goods and services provided by terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems. It also aims to provide the tools necessary to assess and mitigate environmental impacts, as well as to implement appropriate actions for the conservation and restoration of habitats.
The (English-taught) Global Change and Sustainability curriculum is designed to train graduates with the cultural and professional expertise required for the analysis of large-scale global changes, with particular reference to climate change. The curriculum combines bio-ecological, oceanographic, climatological, palaeoclimatic, and socio-economic perspectives with statistical and environmental modelling tools to provide an integrated understanding of the reality of ongoing global change in the Anthropocene. This approach equips graduates with the tools to outline future change scenarios and design appropriate actions for mitigation.
