Suspension of Agreements with Israel: Ca’ Foscari Motion for Peace in Gaza

Ca’ Foscari University of Venice condemns the very grave crimes for which, as documented in the pronouncements of the International Criminal Court and United Nations resolutions, the Government of Israel has been and remains responsible against the Palestinian population of Gaza and the West Bank. For
many months, the whole world has witnessed the killing of tens of thousands of civilians, as well as the systematic destruction of Palestinian educational institutions, including universities.
In the face of this situation, the University undertakes not to initiate agreements or collaborations with Israeli bodies, institutions and universities that are directly or indirectly implicated in the ongoing military campaign, and to suspend those currently in place, until such time as the present military offensive ceases and the Israeli government demonstrates its intention to respect the fundamental rights of the Palestinian people, international and humanitarian law, and United Nations resolutions.
In line with its own Strategic Plan, Ca’ Foscari is also developing a Due Diligence strategy to ensure that scientific, educational and administrative collaborations and relations with public and private bodies are consistent with the fundamental principles on which the life of the University is founded.
Finally, the Academic Senate expresses its full support for Israeli colleagues who oppose their government’s policies of war and occupation, reiterating that suspending institutional partnerships does not entail the end of individual collaborations, which serve as bridges between peoples and are expressions of civility and respect.
