Marco Sgarbi Will Be the New Rector of Ca' Foscari. He Is the Youngest in the University's History

On Thursday 21 May, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice elected its new Rector at the end of the fourth round of voting: Marco Sgarbi is the 24th Rector of Ca’ Foscari. He will lead the university for the next six years, taking office on 1 October 2026. 

Rector’s Elections: Pasini and Sgarbi Proceed to the Run-off

The University will return to the polls on Thursday, 21 May for a fourth round of voting, consisting of a run-off between the two candidates who received the highest number of votes in the previous round, Giacomo Pasini and Marco Sgarbi. The new Rector will take office on 1 October 2026, succeeding Rector Tiziana Lippiello.

In the latest edition of the prestigious QS Europe University Rankings, Ca’ Foscari has secured 5th place in Europe and 2nd in Italy for outbound student mobility, standing out among the 958 institutions assessed.

University closures from 24 December to 6 January. BAUM and BALI-CFZ are open on 5 and 6 January

All Ca’ Foscari University of Venice premises will be closed for the Christmas holidays from Wednesday 24 December 2025 to Tuesday 6 January 2026, and will reopen as usual on Wednesday 7 January 2026.

From Church to University Library: Ca' Foscari Opens a New Chapter at Spirito Santo

The transformation of the Church of Spirito Santo on Fondamenta delle Zattere in Venice into a University Library has begun. The library will be arranged within a structure built at the centre of the nave, featuring staircases and a lift, and will span three levels. It will contain around 2,000 metres of books and offer a total of 290 study seats.

8 December: Campus closure and special library openings

Ca’ Foscari University buildings will be closed on Monday 8 December 2025 for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. 
The University libraries will also be closed, with the exception of CFZ and BAUM, which will open according to the following schedule: CFZ – 2:00 p.m- 12:00 Midnight, BAUM – 09:00–9:00 p.m.

Welcome Back to San Sebastiano: Ca’ Foscari’s Revitalised Hub for Oriental Studies

Following the completion of a major redevelopment project, the Ca’ Foscari San Sebastiano site was officially inaugurated on Wednesday, 26 November 2025 and is now ready to welcome students, faculty, and staff. From now on, this will be the heart of Oriental Studies and a strategic hub for languages, well integrated into the broader network of university and city spaces.
