Overview
The Master’s Degree Programme in Specialised Translation: Multimedia and Accessibility is designed for anyone wishing to turn their language skills into a qualified modern profession. You will engage with the latest developments in translation, where languages, digital technologies and multimedia communication intersect; you will learn to manage complex content with quality, precision and sensitivity, with a strong focus on accessibility and inclusion.
You will study two languages from: English, Spanish, and Italian Sign Language (LIS), choosing one of the following curricula:
Specialised Translation for Media Accessibility
which includes advanced study of English and Spanish, their specialist languages, and literary translation. The curriculum features modules on multimedia translation and accessibility in media communication, with particular attention to translation technologies, Artificial Intelligence, and ethical and professional issues.
LIS Interpreting and Multimedia Translation
which encompasses advanced courses in English or Spanish and Italian Sign Language (LIS). This curriculum includes modules on multimedia translation, media communication accessibility, and interpreting into and from LIS. The programme also covers cultural aspects of the studied languages, translation technologies, and professional ethics and conduct.
In the first year, you will develop your skills in linguistic analysis and texts in Italian and your selected languages, examining translation and language-culture topics from both practical and theoretical angles. Additionally, you will build the foundational skills for analysing, producing, and translating specialised texts, as well as for acquiring research and documentation methods relevant to translation.
In the second year, you will consolidate your translation and editing skills, learning to use computer-assisted translation tools, localisation technologies and Artificial Intelligence systems for post-editing and quality control. You will also explore audio description, inclusion services for blind and partially sighted people, and, if you have chosen this curriculum, interpreting into and from LIS.
