Martina VENUTI

I was born in Milan on 7th May 1981; I studied at the University of Milan, where I graduated in Latin literature in 2005. Between 2003 and 2005 I took advantage of a scholarship as a “residing student” at the Collegio di Milano. I obtained my PhD in Latin Philology from the University of Parma (2009). In the following years I collaborated on the Musisque deoque project. A dynamic digital archive of Latin poetry, from its origins to the Italian Renaissance at the Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. In 2012 I got a three-year research grant at the University of Milan, joining the ERC StG ​​263577 project dedicated to the Liber Glossarum; between 2015 and 2016 I continued that collaboration as an ingénieur de recherche en analyse de sources with a contract with CNRS - Paris. Since 2012 I have been collaborating in teaching activities for the Chair of Latin literature at the University of Milan and at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart of Milan.

In November 2016, I took up a position as a fixed-term researcher (type B) in Latin Language and Literature at the Department of Humanities of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. On 4th September 2018 I obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Associate Professor in the SSD L-FIL-LET / 04 (Latin language and literature); on 29th November 2019 I was appointed as Associate Professor at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.

My research interests focus in particular on Latin Late Antiquity, and specifically on the study of the reception of auctores in poetry, in commentaries and in Late Latin works, on the investigation of the forms of transmission of knowledge in the Latin context (mythography, encyclopedism, re-use of sources), on the digital tools for analysing texts and their use in philological investigation, on the study of Latin lexicon and "classic" literary topoi that inform the history of (European) literature. I have participated in numerous national and international conferences and produced a series of works on these issues.

During my PhD and Postdoctoral path I had the chance to benefit from prolonged periods of study abroad; the most significant took place at the Warburg Institute in London (2006, 2008, 2009, 2010) and the Institut de Recherche et d’Histoire des textes in Paris (2007). I am a member of the scientific board of the scientific journal AOQU.

In the years following my PhD, from 2009 to 2016, I added to my academic work an intense activity as a consultant for libraries, antique book shops and publishing houses: I was responsible for the production of catalogues (paper and digital), I edited individual collections of national importance, I designed private archive management tools and collaborated with Mondadori on the publication of several volumes within the I Meridiani series.
