Juan Ignacio Siles del Valle (1961), Bolivian, holds a degree in Spanish American Literature and has taught at the Universidad Mayor de San Andrés in La Paz. A career diplomat, he has held posts in Italy and Austria and with United Nations agencies. Between 2003 and 2005 he served as Bolivia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs; since 2006 he is Director of the Ibero-American Conference in Ibero-American General Secretariat in Madrid. He is a member of the Academia Boliviana de la Lengua and, in 2025, was awarded the Dámaso Alonso Prize by the Academia Hispanoamericana in Madrid. In addition to Canción de cuna para la muerte de mi madre, he has published the poetry collections Con las manos vacías de mariposas muertas (1987), Medulamor (1993) and El aire de tu estar presente (2015), the essay La guerrilla del Che y la narrativa boliviana (1996), and the novel-essay Los últimos días del Che (Barcelona 2007; first edition Qué el sueño era tan grande, 2001), also translated into Italian (Gli ultimi giorni del “Che”, Baldini e Castoldi, 2009)
