Ping Lu (Kaohsiung, Taiwan, 1953) is one of the most acclaimed Taiwanese writers, both at home and abroad, recognised for her penetrating and perceptive view of reality and her innovative style. After working for several years as a journalist, she began writing in the 1980s and has since published numerous works of fiction and non-fiction, spanning a wide range of genres, from psychological fiction to science fiction and historically inspired narratives, continually reinventing them from a female perspective. A keen observer of the human psyche, her work often examines women and their role in contemporary society, alongside other important issues. Among her numerous works are Xing dao tianya (transl. Love and Revolution, 1995), a novel recounting the love story and political ideals of Sun Yat-sen and Soong Ching-ling, skillfully rewriting history and restoring a sense of humanity to two well-known historical figures, and the collection of autobiographical essays Tanlu de xin (Mandala of the Heart, 2017), that explores universal themes such as trauma, the search for identity, and the complexity of family bonds. Ping Lu has received numerous literary awards, and her works have been translated into English, French, Czech, Korean and Japanese. Anima di pioggia leggera (Cafoscarina, 2025) features the Italian translation of two of her short stories.
