Hajar Azell (Rabat, 1992) was not yet twenty when, between 2010 and 2011, the ‘Arab Spring’ set the streets of Tunis, Cairo, Damascus and Algiers alight, before the hopes it had raised were swept away or crushed in blood. Today, Hajar lives between Paris and Rabat; she founded the magazine onorient.com, which celebrates the creative momentum of North Africa and the Middle East. After making her literary debut with L’envers de l’été (Gallimard, 2021), she published Le sens de la fuite in 2025, also with Gallimard; the novel was released in Italy by Marcos y Marcos.
