Curriculum vitae

David Bryant received his Ph.D in Musicology at London University (King's College) in 1981.

He currently teaches History of Music, Historical Sources of Music, Interpretation of Archival Sources for the History of Music, and Economics of Music at the University of Venice.

His research interests are centred above all on the history of Medieval and Renaissance church music; he is editor of several volumes of the complete works of the Venetian composer Andrea Gabrieli and is author of studies on the function and sounds of music in St Mark's Venice, as also in the smaller churches of Venice and the many cities of the Venetian territories.

He has also worked extensively on the reception of Carlo Goldoni's prose works in musical theatre and problems of early nineteenth-century opera.
