Digital leadership: new style or concept proliferation?

VSM lecture held by Robin Bauwens,  Professor at the Department of Human Resource Studies at Tilburg University, Tilburg.

The event is available also online via Zoom

Digital technologies including social, mobile, analytics, cloud, and Internet of Things have significantly changed how we work and how organizations deal with their employees. While scholars emphasize the pivotal role of leadership in navigating these changes, it is unclear how such leadership should look like, and a shared terminology remains elusive. Exploring terms such as e-leadership, virtual leadership, and digital leadership, my talk seeks to unravel their different faces in the literature, and whether they represent innovative leadership styles or familiar concepts in new contexts. The goal is to offer a nuanced understanding of leadership in relation to digital technologies.

Robin Bauwens is Assistant Professor HRM at the Department of Human Resource Studies, Tilburg University (The Netherlands). He gained his PhD in Business Economics from Ghent University (Belgium) doing research on leadership performance management in higher education. His current research is situated at the crossroads of leadership, HRM, and digital technologies. His work has appeared in esteemed journals like the Journal of Business Research, Public Management Review, Journal of Leadership and Organization Studies, and Computers in Human Behavior.
