INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP BEHAVIOURS FOR INNOVATION

The course will deepen students’ understanding of human behaviours in a variety of organizations. It will provide theoretical and practical knowledge on what are human behaviours and the main challenges in managing them. Course’s focus will be on behaviours that lead to innovation and novelty generation. The course will examine the topic at different levels of analysis, namely individual, interpersonal and team levels of analysis. The behaviours will be analysed through the lens of most important theories that research has been developing in the last decades, but they will be understood also in the light of the actual organizational context and its most recent evolutions, especially considering the organizational changes firms have to implement to afford the pandemia and the spread of remote working.
In doing so students will understand and appreciate the complex interaction between individuals onsite and online that emerge when people engage in working on a task together and pursue novelty.

The course will help students to develop an integrated set of frameworks and tools for understanding and managing their own and others behaviours and for assessing how human behaviours can influence creativity and ultimately the effectiveness of organizations. A special attention will be given also to ethics. Today’s manager can create an ethically healthy climate for his or her employees and encourage employees to behave with integrity.
Specifically the course is designed :
- to develop students’ skills in analysing, discussing and critiquing both problems and solutions regarding some relevant human behaviours
- to enable students to develop a comprehensive knowledge about the challenges managers face in managing human behaviours in modern organizations pursuing creativity and innovation;
- to identify ethical issues in managing human behaviours

Basic knowledge of strategy and organization design

The course will develop a robust in-depth analysis of organizational behaviours and will stimulate critical discussion about them.

After an introductory section to define human behaviours and looking at the main challenges of managing them in modern organizations, the course is divided in two sections one focusing on the individual level of analysis and the second focusing on the group level of analysis.

- what are human behaviours, main organizational challenges, a behaviour model, behaviours and ethics, managing motivation in remote working
Individual behaviours
- Attitudes, Job Satisfaction and emotional intelligence
- Motivation theories and applications
- Decision making and creativity
Group behaviours
- Foundations of group behaviour: properties and decision making
- Understanding work team and managing team in remote working
