Course content

Grammar revision as well as extensive new advanced grammar, paying particular attention to areas that are problematic for Italian mother tongue speakers such as singular and plural agreement, perfect and continuous tenses.

Lexis looks at more advanced word fields, such as sophisticated emotions, binomials, and connotation.

Pronunciation: includes contrastive stress and stress in multi-syllable adjectives as well as understanding different accents.

Listening: with particular attention to video listening

Speaking: continuation with presentation skills; All students will be required to do a presentation for the midterm assessment.

Writing:

There will be five in-class writing assignments: 3 in the first semester (last lesson in October, November and December) and two in the second semester (last lesson in February and March). The marks are included in your average for ongoing assessment. Those who do not complete all five written in-class assignments will have an additional written assignment in the final assessment at the end of the second semester.

Ongoing assessment in class:

- speaking activities and presentations

You will be given marks for the work you do during the year, and these will be taken into account in your final mark. Non-attending students are asked to follow the Moodle page to keep an eye out for homework assignments.

 Midterm assessment:

last two lessons in first semester (January 2027):

Assessment based on grammar and vocabulary from book

Presentation – either individual or in pairs/groups.

 Final assessment:

Last two lessons in second semester

Grammar and vocabulary from book

Written assignment for those who did not attend the five in-class writing assignments: essay, formal letter of application or email.

Both assessments are obligatory if you want to take the module exam.
