Call for Expression of Interest - MSCA European Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026 at ALiDiM (ERC, Ca’ Foscari Venice)

https://euraxess.ec.europa.eu/jobs/423814

The ERC-funded ALiDiM project (G.A. no. 101115616), led by Dr. Simona Olivieri and hosted at the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, invites outstanding postdoctoral researchers with an excellent track record of research and publication to express their interest by May 20, 2026 in joining the ALiDiM team as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellows (MSCA, European postdoctoral fellowship, 2026 call).

This call for expression of interest is open to scholars whose research interests fall within the wider scope of the ALiDiM project, including classical Arabic codification practices, intellectual history of the early Islamic world, cross-cultural transmission in late antiquity, as well as grammar-making processes and related cultural and extra-linguistic aspects. The project also welcomes potential applicants working on metalinguistics, philosophy of language, and linguistic traditions, who will aim to contribute to the project’s objectives from a comparative perspective.

Shortlisted candidates who wish to submit an MSCA-PF application will receive dedicated guidance and support from Ca’ Foscari’s Research funding office, helping them to develop a competitive and high-quality proposal.

Research areas of interest

We welcome expressions of interest from potential MSCA-PF candidates that aim to engage with one or more of the following themes:
 Arabic linguistic tradition in its formative period;
• Processes of language codification, with attention to extra-linguistic factors;
• Metalinguistic discourse and the formation of specialized terminologies;
• Intellectual history of late antiquity and the early Islamic world;
• Cross-cultural knowledge transmission, e.g., across Byzantine, Syriac, Greek, Arabic spheres;
• Formation of scholarly communities and the role of intellectual networks;
• Manuscript and textual studies relevant to Arabic, Greek, or Syriac traditions;
• Interactions between language, culture, and society.

Prospective applicants should check the eligibility and mobility conditions of MSCA-PFs, which include:
• Holding a PhD by the call deadline (9 September 2026) and having no more than 8 years of research experience after the PhD at the time of the deadline;
• Compliance with the mobility rule, i.e., candidates must not have resided or carried out their main activities (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host institution for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately preceding the call deadline.

Additionally, candidates should be fluent in English and possess excellent teamwork attitude, organizational skills, and the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment.
