Programme modules and dates

Dates

July 8 - 19, 2024

Our Italian language and culture programme is designed for participants with no previous knowledge of the Italian language, or for those who wish to review basic A1 skills. The Summer School aims to provide participants with a comprehensive Italian language course combined with a particular cultural focus in order to improve general language skills while gaining insight into aspects of Italian and Venetian culture.

Language Module

The Italian language component is a 40-hour module (at the A1 level) and will cover the basic language functions such as making positive and negative statements, presenting people and things and introducing yourself, asking for and understanding basic personal information (age, work, address…), prepositions and location, describing habits and daily activities, expressing date and time, possession and quantity.

Cultural module

This module is made of an additional 10 hours dedicated to providing an introduction to Italian art history within the context of the history of Venice. In the course of the lessons and through possible visits to the city’s main sites of interest, the introduction to Italian art history will focus on the historical and stylistic analysis of Venice’s most meaningful works of art and gain a better understanding of what has come to constitute the myth of this enchanted city.
