Overview

The programme provides practical, career-focused training in English and Spanish, with courses in language, translation, negotiation, and linguistics. You can also choose to add French or Portuguese as a third language.

Teaching emphasises dialogue interpreting and translation, covering areas such as tourism, technology, economics, and publishing. Considerable attention is also paid to the cultures, literatures, and economic–political geography of the studied languages, with a particular focus on digital tools used in mediation and tourism.

International network, experience abroad and employment

You can choose to spend a period of study and internship abroad thanks to Ca’ Foscari’s over 1,500 agreements with partners worldwide, through programmes such as  Erasmus+ and Overseas. Additionally, students of Linguistic and Cultural Mediation have reserved places at Spanish and non-European universities. For instance, you may spend a study period at the universities of Málaga, Valencia, Jaén, Valladolid, or Barcelona. Outside the EU, you could consider Stellenbosch (South Africa), Ottawa (Canada), or Melbourne (Australia).

The programme has a strong professional emphasis and allows you to do a full semester of internship in the third year. The internship, worth 13 CFU/ECTS credits, can be undertaken in Italy or abroad, and involves activities in linguistic or cultural communication and mediation – written or oral – in English, Spanish, or one of the optional languages. If you choose to do your internship abroad, you will receive a bonus of 2 points on your final degree mark.

Ca' Foscari's Career Service guides you into the world of work with advice services, CV support, meetings with institutions and companies, and the search for and setup of training internships in Italy and abroad.

Applied teaching labs

The Bachelor’s Degree Programme in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation allows you to actively participate from the beginning by engaging in cultural and tourism projects.

On the “Best in Translation” project page [ITA], you can find videos of some projects carried out by students in the programme, including video creation and subtitling, designing food and wine itineraries, and editing tourism brochures in English.

The video 'Treviso ciclabile' (Treviso by bike), which you can view on this page, was also created by students, to promote English-speaking tourism in the city that hosts our Degree Programme.
