Internship - traineeship

The internship is a period of on-the-job training offered to students and recent graduates to acquire knowledge and professional skills that can be put into practise in the world of work, experiencing the life of a company.

It is a compulsory part of the all Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes. The internship can be linked to the final exam and it is recommended that you do it during the final year of the programme.

To calculate the required duration of the internship, multiply the number of credits provided by your study plan by 25 hours: for example 6 ECTS = 150 hours, 9 ECTS = 225 hours, 12 ECTS = 300 hours.

Experiences such as Servizio Civile Universale, Summer School, CLab, etc. will be recognized as indicated in the file below.

1. Introduction and objectives

The Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Management integrates academic lectures with experiential learning. Internships are a key element of the program: through this experience and collaboration with entrepreneurs and managers, students will have the opportunity to address topics and implement models learned in various courses, developing projects and solutions in collaboration with partner companies.

The objectives of the Internship for the Bachelor’s Degree in Digital Management are:

  • To provide students with the opportunity to engage with work environments, understand their dynamics, and help them develop managerial skills.
  • To offer a chance for professional growth and further development of soft skills such as empathy, communication, resilience, teamwork, goal orientation, and self-control.
  • To allow students to explore the opportunities brought by the digital revolution in nearly every sector and understand how companies can be supported during this phase of change.
  • To enrich students’ knowledge in specific processes and digital solutions in areas such as marketing, human resource management, accounting, sales, data analysis, and legal aspects related to digital environments.Introduction

The BA Degree in Digital Management integrates academic lessons with experiential learning and project-based learning. The Internship Project is key in the programme: by taking part in internships and collaborating with entrepreneurs and managers in real-life contexts, students will learn through practice and will have the chance to reflect on the applications of the concepts they have learnt in class. This experience contributes to students’ employability by favoring the further development of soft and transversal skills.

2. The project

The internship can take place at consulting firms, institutions, startups, and companies in both the private and public sectors, either in Italy or abroad. The internship will aim to develop a specific project based on the company’s needs and will focus on innovation and digital transformation.

The project must align with the curriculum of the Digital Management program and will serve as the main topic of the student’s thesis.

3. Timeline, requirements and CFU

The Internship Project can be carried out in two formats:

  1. internship in italy and abroad: To start the internship, students must have earned at least 114 credits. Generally, the internship takes place starting from the 2nd semester of the 3rd year. The internship must have a minimum duration of 4 months and include at least 25 hours of activity for each ECTS credit required by the student's study plan (1 ECTS = 25 hours of work).
  2. pre-accelerator: Students who wish to develop a business idea for launching a startup can apply to carry out their project at the H-FARM Start-Up Center. The pre-accelerator consists of two main phases: an initial training phase led by the Start-Up Center team, followed by a period of independent work, during which periodic monitoring will be conducted to assess the project's progress. This process will allow students to fulfill the required hours for credit recognition in place of the internship, according to their study plan.

Once the confirmation from the Start-Up Center for the start of the pre-acceleration program has been received, students must inform the H-FARM Education Career Service by sending an email.
The Career Service will provide the necessary documentation to be completed before the beginning of the activity, in order to obtain credit recognition.

Please note that the pre-acceleration activity will be considered officially started and valid only if the documentation provided by the Career Service is correctly completed and subsequently confirmed by the office.

Students should note that internships managed through Ca’ Foscari University of Venice cannot exceed a cumulative duration of 12 months during the entire three-year program.

4. Roles and responsibilities

The Internship Project will be the primary focus of the student’s thesis. Three key stakeholders will be involved in the project: the student, the thesis supervisor, and the company tutor, with Ca’ Foscari and H-FARM Education acting as facilitators of the process.

Ca’ Foscari University and H-FARM Education. These institutions will provide students with a broad network of companies and projects. Ca’ Foscari will offer administrative support to students and host companies to organize and implement the internship. The university will also ensure insurance coverage for workplace accidents and civil liability.

Students. Each student may choose the theme of their Internship Project, the organization, and the business area/function to work in based on their interests and aptitudes. Projects may involve topics such as technological innovations, digital transformation, digital law, business strategy development, marketing, communication, organization, data management, etc. Students may independently select a company and project, provided it aligns with their academic path. Communication with the company should include the Career Service of H-FARM Education (careerservice.edu@h-farm.com) in CC to confirm the alignment between the internship and the academic program.

Thesis Supervisor. The thesis supervisor will suggest themes, projects, and organizations and support students during the internship and thesis writing while monitoring outcomes. Supervisors must be professors from the Venice School of Management, the Department of Economics, or the Department of Computer Science, Statistics, and Environmental Sciences. For this latter option, only professors belonging to the following scientific-disciplinary sectors may be selected: SECS-S/01, ING-INF/05, INF/01.

Eligible supervisors include:

  • Full Professors
  • Associate Professors
  • Researchers
  • Contract Professors
  • Company Tutor

Identified at the beginning of the Internship Project, the company tutor will serve as the student’s point of reference within the organization. The tutor will play a crucial role in supporting and assisting the student, monitoring the proper progress of the Internship Project, and ensuring the achievement of expected results.
