Why choose this programme

1

you will investigate the behaviour and rules governing the transformation of matter, learn innovative techniques for the synthesis and characterisation of new substances and materials, and apply your knowledge to scientific, environmental, and social challenges, with a particular emphasis on green and sustainable transition

2

you can choose from three curricula: Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, and Biomolecular Chemistry. You will learn to interconnect chemical knowledge with its technological, industrial, and biomolecular applications

3

develop the ability to suggest solutions in different fields, such as chemistry, molecular biology, nanomaterials, energy sources, and environmentally sustainable chemical production

Overview

The programme stands out for its innovative and integrated approach to sustainable industrial and biomolecular chemistry. Teaching focuses on developing original ideas and methodologies for designing new sustainable chemical processes, both in research and in applied and industrial contexts, through sustainable and green chemistry.
It provides an in-depth understanding of the interaction between chemical production, biology and the environment, applying various tools from chemistry and biomolecular chemistry to address complex challenges in the transformation and production of new substances and materials.

By the end of the programme, you will have acquired an advanced level of expertise in sustainable and green chemistry and technology, as well as in biomolecular and biotechnological research, within a multi- and interdisciplinary environment.

You can choose from three study curricula: Biomolecular Chemistry (entirely taught in English), Chemistry, or Industrial Chemistry.

Opinions

Alvise Perosa

Programme coordinator

"Chemistry is a fundamental discipline within the natural sciences. This Master’s programme focuses on advanced, environmentally friendly, and sustainable chemical processes, as well as innovative chemical and biomolecular technologies. Graduates will acquire the scientific skills necessary to support the well-being of society and the environment. One third of the programme involves active learning through teaching laboratories and experimental research placements for the dissertation."

International network, experience abroad and employment

You can apply to spend part of your curriculum abroad by participating in international programmes organised in collaboration with one or more partner universities and leading to a Double Degree or a Joint Degree.
Current Double Degrees:

Ca' Foscari has over 1,500 partnerships with international institutions, including programmes like Erasmus+ and Overseas, enabling students to study and intern abroad.

The programme also offers numerous practical opportunities for internships in industry and abroad, equipping you with the skills required to take on highly qualified technical or academic positions in research and development, as well as in quality control and production.
Ca' Foscari's Career Service guides you into the world of work with advice services, CV support, meetings with institutions and companies, and the search for and setup of training internships in Italy and abroad.

What you will study
Study plans for the academic year 2025/2026

After graduation

you will have career opportunities in the chemical, pharmaceutical, and manufacturing industries across various sectors, including food, textiles, paper, tanning, electroplating, biotechnology, environmental remediation, energy resource management, and advanced materials—essentially, in any field requiring scientific and technical expertise

you may choose to continue your studies with a PhD or register with the Italian Professional Association of Chemists (Section A), after passing the relevant state examination

you can work in industrial consultancy, including workplace safety and hygiene, either as an employee or as a freelance professional.
