Why choose this programme
this programme teaches translation and interpretation together, combining them into a curriculum focusing on Chinese as the primary language. The English, Spanish, and LIS (Italian Sign Language) tracks concentrate on specialised translation, effectively meeting the requirements of the business world
this is the only programme that offers the Chinese-English language combination, along with Chinese-Italian. Furthermore, the programme includes an English-Spanish curriculum, which has recently been awarded the EMT (European Master’s in Translation) quality label by the European Commission. The programme also provides English-LIS and Spanish-LIS tracks
Overview
The Master’s degree in Translation and Interpreting is unique because it combines training in both fields within a single structured programme. It offers the Chinese–English language pair, in addition to Chinese–Italian. The programme develops advanced skills in the studied languages, with a focus on specialised and literary translation as well as interpreting. It also includes proficiency in digital and multimedia tools and techniques relevant to many professions. The translation studies cover a broad spectrum of linguistic, literary, and socio-cultural topics from a comparative, intercultural, and inclusive perspective.
The programme is organised into two distinct curricula:
- Chinese–English–Italian Translation and Interpreting
- Specialised translation in the following combinations: English-Spanish, English-Italian Sign Language (LIS), Spanish-Italian Sign Language (LIS)
The two curricula share several core courses and allow students to choose modules from the alternative curriculum, offering a flexible and personalised study path.
The programme is designed for graduates who already possess a strong command of Chinese language and culture, or of English and Spanish language and culture, or Italian Sign Language in combination with English or Spanish. It aims to support those wishing to deepen their understanding of translation and interpreting techniques – including consecutive and simultaneous interpreting – along with the cultural knowledge essential for working in these fields.
