Why choose this programme

1

a degree in Chemistry will enable you to understand the composition, behaviour and transformation processes of matter at the molecular scale. You will learn to synthesise new substances and materials, and to understand their structure and properties, as well as predict their behaviour. You will explore the principles of sustainable chemistry and thus contribute to the development of a cleaner and safer chemical industry

2

after building your fundamental knowledge in the first two years, your third year offers the flexibility to select from four modern Chemistry curricula: Biomolecular Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Solid State and Materials Chemistry, and Green Chemistry. This enables you to apply your skills across key areas such as sustainable production, biomolecules, and nanomaterials

3

you will take part in extensive laboratory work, where you will directly experiment with many of the topics covered in lectures. In the laboratories, you will work closely with lecturers and tutors, with access to modern facilities and advanced scientific equipment

Overview

This degree programme integrates chemistry and sustainable development through an innovative, comprehensive approach that balances scientific accuracy with social responsibility. A key aspect of the Ca’ Foscari programme is its combination of theoretical instruction and practical experience. Besides classroom lessons, students participate in many laboratory sessions, providing an engaging and practical way to apply theories from the very beginning.

Tutoring activities will help you engage with the more difficult modules and prepare well for your exams. The favourable staff-to-student ratio promotes meaningful interactions throughout your studies, which often culminate in an experimental dissertation conducted in a research lab.

International network, experience abroad and employment

Ca' Foscari has over 1,500 partnerships with international institutions, including programmes like Erasmus+ and Overseas, enabling students to study and intern abroad.

Ca' Foscari's Career Service guides you into the world of work with advice services, CV support, meetings with institutions and companies, and the search for and setup of training internships in Italy and abroad.

What you will study
Study plans for the academic year 2026/2027

After graduation

the main employment sectors are in chemistry and sustainable development. You may work in companies and laboratories involved in the production, processing and marketing of traditional and advanced substances and materials, as well as in the innovative, sustainable chemical industry

you may choose to continue your studies at Master’s level, for example on the degree programmes in Chemistry and Sustainable Technologies or Science and Technology of Bio and Nanomaterials offered at Ca’ Foscari

you may also sit the State Examination in order to enrol in the Italian Register of Chemists (Section B) and practise as a self-employed professional
