Overview

Would you like to study Italy from a fresh, global perspective?
This programme, taught entirely in English, provides an interdisciplinary experience that combines language, literature, history, the arts, and intercultural and geopolitical relations to explore Italy’s role in the Mediterranean.

It is not only about Italy: here you will develop critical and analytical skills across the whole Mediterranean world, its history, cultures, and the political dynamics that shape it today.
Through a pathway spanning the ancient, medieval, early modern, and contemporary periods, you will explore literary texts, historical documents, artworks, and social and religious practices.
This interdisciplinary approach will enable you to develop a broad, contextualised understanding of Italy’s historical and contemporary role in the world.

The programme is structured around a single curriculum that combines solid theoretical foundations with specific expertise across a range of fields, including Mediterranean history, comparative literature, archaeology, art, intercultural communication and digital scholarship.
You will also have the opportunity to tailor your studies through optional modules and to apply the skills you have acquired through activities and internships, preparing you to engage independently and critically with the study and interpretation of Mediterranean culture.

Opinions

Mimmo Cangiano

Programme coordinator

“Our approach reimagines Italian Studies by rediscovering Italy as a key hub within Mediterranean dynamics. This is a distinctive programme, different from others taught in English in Italy and abroad, in that it allows you to explore Italian culture within the wider Mediterranean framework, with close attention to current affairs and global challenges. If you are looking for an international, forward-thinking programme that is open to the world, this is the right one for you.”
