Overview

The programme is characterised by comparative teaching and research, focusing on the languages, literatures, linguistics, philologies, cultures, and histories of European countries, the Americas, and other regions historically influenced by contact with Europe.

Innovation and multidisciplinarity are the main pillars of our syllabus: you can enrol in numerous courses taught in a foreign language, supported by a large number of international lecturers, visiting professors and visiting scholars from around the world.

One of the programme’s strengths is the wealth of languages on offer: as many as 16 languages that you can study for three years, plus three languages with one-year courses. Ca’ Foscari is the only University in the area where can find courses in the following eight languages: Albanian, Basque, Bulgarian, Catalan, Hispano-American, Italian Sign Language, Tactile Italian Sign Language and Swedish.

You will gain a strong foundation in two foreign languages of your choice (selected from the three-year languages) from Europe or America. Language abilities, ranging from B2 to C1 depending on the language, are supported by preparation in one of three available curricola: International Politics; Linguistics, Philology and Language Teaching Research; or Literatures and Culture.

The programme also participates in innovative teaching projects to develop cross-disciplinary skills, such as Minors and MOOCs, and organises numerous activities: seminars, conferences, book presentations, meetings, film festivals, exhibitions, and initiatives run by students.
