The final examination is awarded 24 credits. In general terms, it consists in the writing of a thesis prepared under the supervision of a professor and in the presentation and discussion of the thesis before a committee of professors and experts.

The thesis must be original and have an 'international' content in a broad sense (interstate relations, transnational relations, international organizations, international law, international economics, regional political/economic issues). The thesis should be approximately 220,000 characters in length. The thesis must be written in Italian or English for the curricula in Italian and in English for the curricula in English. The discussion will take place before a committee of at least three lecturers and/or experts.

The candidate should demonstrate in-depth knowledge of the theoretical framework of reference, competence in finding sources, critical capacity and argumentative competence in writing the text and expository competence in its presentation and discussion.
The supervisor has a guiding function and must be a professor of the program. Any exceptions must be justified and submitted to the teaching board.

Further details on the final dissertation are specified in the RIC Dissertation Guidelines and in the Study Course Regulation.
