Scientific Activity

His scientific activity is documented by over 100 papers published on peer-reviewed international Journals (see enclosed list). It involves mainly the synthesis and reactivity of novel organometallic complexes of Palladium and Platinum and some coordination compounds of Platinum and Gold.

Such reactions,of great current interest for the organic synthesis promoted or catalyzed by transition metals , have been studied from the kinetic , mechanistic, and fluxional points of view

by instrumental techniques ( UV-Vis ,IR,NMR,conductivity and potentiometry)

implemented by efficient mathematical and statistical computer methods of experimental numerical data analysis (Organometallic Chemometrics). The ensuing reaction mechanims have allowed the elucidation of the electronic and steric factors affecting the reactivity of the complexes examined along with the regio- and stereoselectivity of processes of formation of novel carbon-carbon and carbon-nitrogen bonds.

When appropriate, the kinetic mechanistic tudies have been supported by thermodynamic equilibrium constant measurements for a thorough comprehension of the overall reacitvity of the complexes under study.

A further extension of these investigations involves the incorporation of organometallic Palladium complexes into regular macromolecular dendrimeric structures which are expected to substantially modify their reactivity. The strategy of synthesis of the polypyridine-based dendritic structure and the insertion of the metallic moiety into it provides interesting research issues and opens up new promising prospects for significant advances in the field.

The most recent line of research concerns the study of the antitumor properties of new organometallic substrates of palladium.
