2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Kagan and Soai for unravelling the mystery of ‘mirror-image’ molecules

The 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to scientists Henri B. Kagan and Kenso Soai ‘for the discovery of non-linear effects and autocatalysis in asymmetric organic synthesis’. The comment of Alessandro Scarso, Professor of Organic Chemistry at Ca’ Foscari’s Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems

From Galileo’s telescope to the ice of the South Pole: the 2026 Nobel Prize in Physics explained to us by Ca’ Foscari

The 2026 Nobel Prize for Physics was awared to Francis Halzen (University of Wisconsin-Madison). We asked Alessandro Codello, physicist and researcher at Ca’ Foscari’s Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems, to tell us about this research

Same Climate, Different Outcomes: a 'Marie Curie' Research Project Explores the Inequalities in Climate Adaptation

Through her project IMUCCA - Interdisciplinary Model for Understanding Climate Change Adaptation,  researcher Maryam Aslany examines the impact of social stratifications on vulnerability to climate shocks in rural India.

Civil Protection: Digital Plans and Low-Cost Sensors for more Resilient Communities

The Interreg Italy-Croatia Digital Plan project concludes after 30 months of testing. It involved three locations in Croatia and pilot areas in Molise, Maiella National Park, and Fermo, where civil protection plans were transformed into georeferenced data and linked to a network of IoT sensors. Ca’ Foscari managed the digitisation efforts and helped develop the platform alongside the University of Split.

“Am I Building Their Future or Losing Them?”: 'Marie Curie' Fellow Syed Imran Haider Explores the Hidden Emotional World of Migrant Fathers

Where and who does heat hit hardest?

Published in Nature Sustainability, the first multidimensional assessment of Systemic Cooling Poverty across 28 countries in the Global South shows that vulnerability to extreme heat is determined not only by climate, but also by other factors such as infrastructure, inequality, health and working conditions

Svalbard: Arctic snow as an unexpected laboratory of natural chemistry

A study published in Science Advances and conducted by the Institute of Polar Sciences of the National Research Council of Italy in Venice (Cnr-Isp), in collaboration with Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, the University of Perugia and other international partners, has identified for the first time the presence and formation mechanism of bromate in the Arctic snowpack. Bromate is a bromine compound, a chemical element of particular importance in this region because it is involved in processes that characterise the Arctic atmosphere.
